4. Offense - Team Systems
Once you understand how to play effectively both with the puck (”puck” role) and without the puck (“support” role), you can apply these tactics in strategic coordination with your teammates to create a tactical advantage over the opposing team.
These team strategies are called “systems” and serve as the guiding principles for how you should play in common recurring game situations.
The pillar for good offensive team play is puck movement. We want to move the puck quickly and efficiently, because the puck moves faster than anyone can skate. Hockey is a team sport, and the better passing team will usually win more games.
For the purpose of this program, we will be focused on three primary systems - breakouts, rushes and cycles.
