2.5 Cutback
Objective: Create space
2.5.0 - Cutback - Introduction
To cutback means to turn away from pressure. The primary read for a cutback is when you feel pressure closing in on you or you run out of room.
You want to use a quick cutback and quick acceleration to create space and separation between you and the defender.
2.5.1 - Cutback - Punch Turn
Create space by quickly using a punch turn to turn away from pressure combined with quick crossunders to accelerate out of the punch. Ideally, you would use 2 or more crosses to build speed back up. Pick your head up and scan the ice around you out of the punch turn. No blind passes. LD26
2.5.2 - Cutback - Open
2.5.3 - Cutback - Fake
2.5.4 - Cutback - Double
If you are still pressured after your initial cutback, use a second cutback to turn away from pressure again. Make sure to use quick crossunders to accelerate out and scan the ice.
