4.1 - Pillars
Pillars are the non-negotiable skills that must be done every single time you are filling a specific role. Without pillars in place, all other tactics fall apart.
You can never be too good at these skills. NHLers frequently practice these pillar skills even though they are the best of the best.
Vision
The first pillar for offense with the puck is vision. Vision means your ability to scan the ice around you so you can make informed decisions. Without good ice vision, any decision you make is essentially a random guess.
Quick Puck Movement
The second pillar for offense with the puck is quick puck movement. This means that the puck never stops moving. A stalled puck is an easy puck to defend. Puck movement is what creates dynamic offensive opportunities and is what pulls defenders out of position.
